The season’s new production, to be conducted by Hannu Lintu, is Aulis Sallinen’s Kullervo. Puccini’s moving Madama Butterfly will be acted out under the baton of Jan Latham-Koenig and the Castle’s Mozart classic The Magic Flute that of Okko Kamu. The French jewel in the crown is Bizet’s Carmen, and the season culminates in performances by Welsh National Opera of Puccini’s Manon Lescaut and Verdi’s Nabucco.
The concert for the 2014 season, Mozart’s Requiem, will be held at Kerimäki, where the acoustics of the world’s biggest wooden church will provide a unique sounding board for Mozart’s sublime music. The soloists will be Soile Isokoski, Lilli Paasikivi, Jorma Silvasti ja Nicholas Söderlund.
