Dance Open Ballet Gala
The partnership established in 2013 between the Savonlinna Opera Festival and the Dance Open International Ballet Festival of St. Petersburg continues this year.
The Dance Open ballet galas are unique events individually tailored for each occasion and audience. The soloists are selected one by one and the programme is devised to form a balanced entity consisting of classical and modern, solos, duets and mass scenes.
Among the stars of the ballet gala in Olavinlinna Castle in 2014 will be Denis and Anastasia Matvienko from the Mariinsky Theatre, Irina Perren and Marat Shemiunov from the Mikhailovsky Theatre and soloists from the Bolshoi and Eifman Ballets.
The visual aspect, exploiting the potential of modern stage technology, is an integral element of these ballet galas. The July gala is, says Ekaterina Galanova, Head of the International Ballet Festival Dance Open, unique for its venue. “The very special, authentic atmosphere of the medieval castle fits the art of ballet perfectly, emphasising the delicacy and elegance of dance.”
Dance Open galas have already been held in 24 countries, and that in Olavinlinna Castle is part of a St. Petersburg – Savonlinna Ballet Days project supported by the South-East Finland – Russia ENPI Programme of cross-border cooperation.
There will be one ballet gala performance (to recorded music) in Olavinlinna Castle, at 19.00 on Sunday, July 20, 2014. The estimated duration is 2½ hours, and there will be one interval.
