A Requiem of star soloists in the world’s biggest wooden church
The acoustics of Kerimäki Church have been likened to a ‘great resonant cello’. The church will once again resonate in summer 2014, in an Opera Festival performance of Mozart’s Requiem. The Helsinki Baroque Orchestra, the Opera Festival Choir and star soloists will create a superb soundscape for this magnificent work.
Mozart was still composing the Requiem when he died, and it was completed by his pupil, Franz Xavier Süssmayr. The mass commissioned by an outside patron thus came to serve as a testament to the immortal music of a composer destined to die long before his time.
