New production of Verdi’s crowning glory

Rigoletto, court jester to the libertine Duke of Mantua, is cursed by the father of one of the Duke’s victims for his irreverent laughter. When the Duke seduces Rigoletto’s beloved daughter Gilda, the curse seems doomed to take effect in a story that quickens to a shattering, tragic conclusion.
The new Savonlinna Opera Festival production of Rigoletto was inspired by the direction of Sir David McVicar for the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden. Award-winning McVicar creates powerful scenes showing human relations in all their stark, physical reality.
