Jean Sibelius: Kullervo
The birth of Sibelius’s Kullervo Symphony was a key moment in the history of Finnish music. Into the lines from the Finnish national epic, The Kalevala, the young Sibelius packed some of his wildest musical ideas, turning the brutal story into an absolute masterpiece. The parts of Kullervo and his sister will be sung at this concert by a real brother and sister, Ville Rusanen and Johanna Rusanen-Kartano. Conducting the Teatro Real Orchestra and Choir with the Savonlinna Opera Festival Choir will be Santtu-Matias Rouvali.
