Tuscany’s Torre del Lago gave birth to a masterpiece
The fates of opera singer Floria Tosca, painter Mario Cavaradossi and unscrupulous Chief of Police Baron Scarpia get caught up in a maelstrom of love, passion and politics. This operatic thriller grips its audience from the very first notes to the final chord.
Puccini was living in Torre del Lago when he composed Tosca. It would in time become one of the most popular operas of all time, its arias Recondita armonia, Vissi d’arte and E lucevan le stelle sending shivers down the spine. Its famous melodies are familiar even to people not acquainted with the opera.
Tosca comes to Savonlinna straight from the place where it was born, in a guest performance by the Puccini Festival, Torre del Lago.
