Season opening tonight!

Tonight, Olavinlinna will be the castle setting for Otello and a great Verdi opera. The opening work of the 2016 season, Otello is the festival’s tribute to Shakespeare on the 400th anniversary of his death. By the end of the coming week, audiences will have had a chance to see all Verdi’s Shakespeare operas. Bringing Macbeth and Falstaff to Savonlinna is the Ravenna Festival.

Maestro Riccardo Muti to make first conducting appearance in Finland

Riccardo Muti, one of the most celebrated conductors in the world today, is to make a unique appearance at the Savonlinna Opera Festival. The visit by the Ravenna Festival will culminate in a concert by the Giovanile Luigi Cherubini Orchestra conducted him on July 17.
