Accreditation for journalists, influencers and photographers is now open. You should also make your requests for press tickets, interviews and photography using the same form. We can only grant press tickets for media representatives who will produce an article (one ticket per media per performance). Through accreditation, it is also possible to book paid tickets.
The Savonlinna Opera Festival opens on July 1. The rehearsal season starts at the end of May, when performers and artists gather in Savonlinna.
The Savonlinna Opera Festival will be held this year from July 1st to 30th at Olavinlinna Castle. The new production of the next summer’s repertoire is Romeo and Juliet. Director Amy Lane is the artistic director of the Copenhagen Opera Festival. She places Shakespeare’s original events in the hopeful New York of the late 1800s. For the 50th anniversary performances of the beloved Magic Flute, the original direction, set and costumes will be renewed, Erik Söderblom is responsible for the re-direction. Directed by Kari Heiskanen, costumed by costume designer Teemu Muurimäki and staged by Antti Mattila, The Barber of Seville is making people laugh for the second time in Olavinlinna Castle.
Our visiting opera company this summer is Theater Hagen from the Ruhr region in Germany. They bring the first musical of the Savonlinna Opera Festival, Fiddler on the Roof, as well as an evening of two operas, where we will see Blueabeard’s Castle and the Finnish premiere of Outi Tarkiainen’s debut opera A Room of One’s Own.
The summer starts with Romeo and Juliet, where Juliet is played by Marjukka Tepponen and world class star Lisette Oropesa, who will also perform in her own concert on July 9. The Magic Flute is full of Finnish stars; conductor Sakari Oramo and the roles include Tuuli Takala, Iris Candelaria, Johan Krogius, Tuomas Katajala, Anu Komsi, Mika Kares, Markus Suihkonen and Waltteri Torikka.
Samu Haber’s very special performance, confirmed with a big band, will be seen on July 2. Georgian-born folk-pop artist Katie Melua is one of Britain’s most successful female artists and her soft voice will be heard on 16.7.
Again this summer, we are looking for future talents, when the national Timo Mustakallio singing competition takes place on July 16. in Savonlinna Hall.
