In the end, joy and happiness prevail.

The epic staging of opera’s grand master August Everding will be returining in it’s original glory.

Bring your children and grandchildren, your friends and foes, lovers, husbands, wives — your entire family and everyone you know. Enjoy the adventure and some of the world’s most famous arias, from the Queen of the Night’s dazzling aria and Papageno’s bird-catcher song to Pamina and Tamino’s music of love and devotion. The epic staging by opera’s grand master August Everding returns in all its original glory.

In 2014, Helsingin Sanomat wrote about this production: “The Savonlinna Opera Festival’s production of The Magic Flute is already over 40 years old, but it still manages to enchant, move, and entertain audiences.” – and we are certain that this will be the case again in 2027, when the production turns 52.

Synopsis

Prince Tamino is given a mission: to rescue Pamina, the daughter of the Queen of the Night, who is said to be held captive by Sarastro. Tamino is joined on his journey by the cheerful bird-catcher Papageno, and he is given a magic flute whose music can change people’s hearts and protect him from danger.

At first, Tamino believes he is fighting against evil, but soon it becomes clear that things are not as simple as the Queen of the Night has claimed. Sarastro is not a cruel captor, but a representative of wisdom and light. Tamino and Pamina must pass through a series of trials to prove their love, courage and maturity.

Meanwhile, Papageno is searching for the simplest kind of happiness: food, drink and a Papagena of his own. In the end, the forces of darkness are defeated, Tamino and Pamina find each other, Papageno finds his Papagena, and light triumphs over night.
