The Prague National Theatre & Karita Mattila
Grand Opera Concert
The ensemble of the National Theatre Opera, Prague, Národní divadlo, will be magnificently complemented by Karita Mattila, one of the most important Janáček sopranos of her generation, singing the dramatic role of Kostelnička Buryjovka in Jenůfa for the first time in Finland.
Few people can reinvent themselves in such a way that a career spanning more than forty years keeps going strong – but Karita Mattila, one of Finland’s most internationally successful opera singers of today and a two-time Grammy winner, is one of a kind.
A unique programme featuring some of the best-known names in Czech opera culture – Smetana, Dvořák, Janáček and the Národní divadlo. And Karita Mattila on stage!
The grand opera concert will be conducted by Robert Jindra, music director of the National Theatre Opera, Prague. Among the featured artists alongside Mattila are soprano Alžběta Poláčková in the title role of Jenůfa and tenors Pavel Černoch and Aleš Briscein.
The Covid pandemic meant that Karita’s gala concerts in 2020 were cancelled, but now we finally get to celebrate together. Be quick, last time tickets sold like hot cakes.
In the summer of 2024 Karita Mattila will also make her debut in an opera at Savonlinna, appearing as Ortrud in Wagner’s Lohengrin.
