A celebration for opera lovers – 25 October

Umberto Giordano’s opera in the verismo style is a true gem among lesser-known and rarely performed operas. If you want everything to be grand and epic – the music, the voices and the staging by celebrated director Rodula Gaitanou – then this is the evening for you.

Fast-paced, funny and full of energy, The Barber of Seville becomes, in Kari Heiskanen’s staging and Teemu Muurimäki’s bright, expressive costume design, an opera evening filled with laughter and joy from the very first bars.

Leave the real world behind and immerse yourself in a dreamland! The Magic Flute transports you and your children straight into a wondrous world full of magic and mystical creatures. The epic staging of opera’s grand master August Everding will be returining in its original glory.

Carmen is the embodiment of wildness: she is fierce, untamed and takes orders from no one. The production is a guest performance by the Estonian National Opera. There is cause for celebration, as exactly 40 years ago the Estonia Theatre was the Opera Festival’s first international guest.

The 34th Timo Mustakallio Singing Competition highlights talents of the future. The winner is not necessarily the most highly developed participant, but rather a singer with exceptional vocal talent and special interpretative skills.
