Timo Mustakallio Singing Competition
The 31st Timo Mustakallio Singing Competition will be held in Savonlinna on 18 July. The national competition showcases rising Finnish singing talent. The winner may not necessarily be the most technically advanced contestant, but one who has the most unique voice or an exceptional expression.
Since 1974, the competition has launched the international careers of several leading Finnish singers. Past winners include Walton Grönroos, Raimo Sirkiä, Jorma Silvasti, Kirsi Tiihonen, Johanna Rusanen, Helena Juntunen, Marjukka Tepponen and Tuuli Takala. The most recent winner, in 2019, was Iris Candelaria.
The jury will be chaired by the artistic director of the Savonlinna Opera Festival Ville Matvejeff, soprano Karita Mattila, and the artistic director of the Organ Night and Aria festival Erkki Korhonen.
The competition was established by Timo Mustakallio, a former general director of the Savonlinna Opera Festival (1929–1984). It is organised by the Savonlinna Opera Festival and the Timo Mustakallio Foundation in collaboration with the Eero Rantala Fund of the Finnish Cultural Foundation.
First round at 11 a.m. in Savonlinnasali
